HELLO WINTER SKIN

Heating air, freezing cold, lots of roasted almonds and mulled wine, stressful shopping trips and all of that over several months. Wintertime is beautiful, but our skin struggles. The face and hands in particular are fully at the mercy of the constant temperature changes and often react with itching, tightness and a dry feeling. The heating air also contributes to removing more moisture from our skin.

But why is the skin losing more moisture now?

We greedily absorb every ray of sunshine in winter, so seldom do we have the feeling that the sun dares to come out. We don't even need to talk about UV protection in winter at this point. In the summer, the skin thickens to protect the body from the harmful rays of the sun. By winter, these extra skin cells will have died off and are now increasingly depriving you of moisture. Wrinkles appear even deeper, the skin appears brittle, dry and pale.

Proper care is crucial!

When we are out in the fresh air in winter, our cream should give the skin extra moisture - but be careful: the cream should not be water-based. The water molecules could actually freeze on the skin in freezing temperatures, further weakening the skin barrier and accelerating moisture loss. Creams made from high-quality vegetable oils and lipids are more suitable.

Normal and oily skin usually does not need an extra moisturizing cream – an extra winter cream should only be applied when staying in the cold.

Our hands and lips in particular suffer in winter and require additional care. A hand cream is always a good companion at low temperatures and as a little tip: the natural e-oil can be used as nail oil!

How can we additionally protect our skin from moisture loss?

In addition to rich creams and a conscientious care routine, there are other rules of conduct that will help our skin get through the winter:

  • Avoid long hot baths
  • Do not sleep when the temperature is too high - this also improves the quality of your sleep
  • Air well. The ideal humidity is between 50 and 60%
  • Apples and nuts are better than gingerbread and speculaas because sugar prevents cell division in the skin
  • And as always, drinking enough is the be-all and end-all (we don't mean mulled wine!)

Our recommendation for perfectly groomed winter skin:
